The campaign for the right to choose cannabis (”Framtakið fyri rættinum at velja kannabis”) is now eligible to stand for election to the Faroese parliament.
The campaign has finally submitted the 800 signatures required to run for election, much to the delight of the founder of the movement, Mr. Hallur Hjalgrímsson Djurhuus.
He told Kringvarp Føroya that the campaign is now election-ready.
“We are ready. We have a very simple message: we want to make cannabis accessible to patients (who need it), and in the long run we want to decriminalize, deregulate and legalize (the use of cannabis).”
In addition to Mr. Djurhuus and co-founder Mr. Arnfinn á Birtuni, Mr. Hjalmar Zachariassen has also announced that he will run for the Cannabis Party.
Elections to the Faroese parliament have to be held before 2 September 2019.
