Vagar Airport forecasts record-breaking passenger traffic for this year

The total number of air passengers arriving in the Faroe Islands is expected to reach a new all-time high this year, according to Vagar Airport.

In 2019, a record 424,300 travelers passed through the terminal gates of the island nation’s sole airport, however this year’s numbers are expected to set a new record, said Vagar Airport CEO Regin I. Jakobsen.

Mr. Jakobsen was referenced by state broadcaster KvF as saying that roughly 147,000 travelers have passed through the airport so far this year, and that the year-end forecast expects the final number of air passengers for 2023 to reach 440,000.

With severe disruptions over the recent global health crisis taking effect by early 2020, travel numbers took a dive, with last year, however, seeing the passengers numbers climbing back to near the level of 2019, hitting roughly 406,500 travelers in 2022.
