Stretch of fair weather ushers in Faroese summer season

Never mind the occasional rain and yes, the forecast for the next few days has some more of it in store. Bottomline is, we are having pretty good weather most of the time for now, and longest day of the year is just around the corner with 19 hours and 45 minutes of sunlight.

So this is the time of the magic summer nights, when the sun barely goes down; the summer solstice falls on June 21st, with the sun rising at 3:30am and sunset at 11:15pm.

Much of June so far has had bright days with temperature highs between 10 and 15 degrees Centigrade, wind speeds down at 5 to 10 meters per second (11 – 22 mph) and only occasional rain.

Which means people have plenty of reason to celebrate these days in the Faroe Islands—which they do for all sorts of other reasons as well this time of year, including school graduation ceremonies, for example.

From horseback riding to cruising in convertible cars to recreational fishing off the coast—scenes of increasing summer activities are making it known for sure that the holiday season is approaching.

And with vegetation nurtured by mild temperatures and the occasional showers, farmers are pleased to see their fields verdant, unlike the situation they faced a couple of year back.
