On the 1st of May next year, a new Strandfaraskip Landsins (SSL) ship will come to the Faroes. The CEO of Strandfaraskip landsins, Hilmar Eliasen, signed a building contract with the Norwegian shipyard GS Marine Produksjon on Saturday February 23rd for this advanced ship.
The shipyard has vast experience of building these sort of ships and the building number of this Strandfaraskip landsins ship is 49. With this additional ship Strandfaraskip Landsins (SSL) will be able to provide a better service when it comes to the number of journeys, safety, comfort and green ferry operations.
The ship will sail 20 knots with passengers and can be run on electricity or gas oil. There is a capacity of 96 passengers and 3 passenger cars or one lorry on board. The cost of the contract is DKK 33.7 mio.
