At the meeting, Kalpana Vijayavarathan, who immigrated to the Faroe Islands almost 30 years ago, will give a presentation. In addition to being a parent to children in the Faroese schools, Kalpana holds a degree in English literature and has many years of experience as an educator, both at high school and university level. In 2017 she completed her Ph.d. in the field of English education.
In her presentation, Kalpana will share her personal experiences of living in the Faroe Islands and her interactions with parents, teachers, “new arrivals” and those who are born and raised in the Faroe Islands. Kalpana will address the challenges students face if Faroese is not their first language and offer some advice on how to support these students.
Kalpana’s presentation will be given in English and translated to Faroese.
In addition to Kalpana’s presentation, there will be musical performances, the annual report from the school board and coffee and cakes.
All are welcome.
