Magnus Dam appointed new Director General of KVF in wake of controversy

Former Head of Mayor’s Office, legal adviser and journalist Magnus Dam has been appointed new Director General of Faroese government-owned broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

Mr. Dam will replace Katrin Petersen, who has held the position of Acting Director General at KVF since December 2024, when Ivan Niclasen, Director General since October 2018, was discharged after controversies over his alleged granting of an exemption from mandatory media license to a person who had reportedly threatened KVF personnel.

Mr. Dam has a degree in law as well as in journalism. Aside from having worked as a journalist for news media earlier in his career, he has served as a legal adviser for the Municipal Council of Tórshavn and more recently as Head of the Mayor’s Office there.

The new Director General is slated to assume his position as of May 1st.
