It appears that Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen is deeply in love with the Faroe Islands (okay, probably not deeply in love, but he surely seems to have a thing for the Faroe Islands) as he visits the country on a regular basis together with his wife Sólrun Jákupsdóttir Løkke Rasmussen, who is Faroese.
On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen were spotted in the center of foggy Tórshavn, looking relaxed and in good spirits, far away from the hectic and often unforgiving pace of Copenhagen’s political sphere – and Mr. Rasmussen endeared himself to many Faroe Islanders as he was seen wearing a Faroese sweater and a traditional Faroese hat.
Mr. Rasmussen took office as Denmark’s PM in 2015, after he previously held the position from 2009 to 2011. He has been the leader of the center-right liberal ”Venstre” party since 2009.
