The last couple of months, Strandfaraskip Landsins (The nationally owned transport company) has worked on updating the internet on board Smyril. Fiber-optic net has been installed over the whole ship as well new equipment for seanet has been installed all over the ship.
Another advantage with this new equipment is that the speed of the internet has vastly increased. Passengers can now work on board or watch entertainment such as films whilst sailing. There is coverage on the entire route between Krambatangi and Tórshavn as well as to the west of Sandoy where a connection recently has been installed.
The coverage on board has vastly increased and passengers will receive a good internet service over most of the ship.
There are plenty of passengers that are taking advantage of this new internet. On normal working days up to 100 users can be logged on at the same time. In addition, there are twice as many users during the weekend. The highest number of users logged on to the internet at the same time we have registered has been 310.
