The Faroese have made history by qualifying for the 2027 World Men’s Handball Championship after winning both qualifiers against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The first of the two qualifiers took place on Thursday, when the Faroese managed to beat the Bosnian team 24-22, after a half-time score of 12-10. Then on Saturday, the Faroese team once again beat Bosnia-Herzegovina with 33 goals against 28, after a hald-time score of 15-17 in favor of the Bosnians. This gave the Faroese a combined victory of 57-50.
Top goal scorer in both matches for the Faroes was Hákun West av Teigum, who netted 11 goals in each of the two matches.
Next year’s world championship, slated to take place in Germany in January, is the first for the Faroese men’s team. However, the women’s handball team participated in their first such tournament last year, the IHF 2025 World Championship, hosted by Germany and the Netherlands in November and December.
