Faroese company nominated for the Nordic Council Environment Prize 2019 thanks to its work on producing fashion from waste

Faroese design company Guðrun & Guðrun has been nominated for the Nordic Council Environment Prize 2019, thanks to its work on producing fashion from waste.

Norden.org writes the following about Guðrun & Guðrun‘s “fashion from waste”: Once incinerated and a problem for the local waste system, Faroese lambswool and lambskin are now in demand all over the world.

One of the reasons for the change is the company Guðrun & Guðrun, which has modernised a classic Nordic natural product – the knitted jersey – made from the wool of sheep that wander freely in the green Faroese mountains and hand knitted by Faroese, Jordanian and Peruvian women.

Guðrun & Guðrun is all about the sustainable use of a natural Nordic raw material and giving women greater control over their working conditions. The company is a real SDG12 story.
