Diplomatic office of Faroe opens in Washington DC

Earlier this week, the Faroe Islands opened an official Representation in Washington D.C. The new office is located at the House of Sweden, alongside the embassies of Sweden and Iceland, respectively.

The new diplomatic Representation is the eighth such office of the Faroes, alongside its equivalents in Moscow, Reykjavik, London, Bruxelles, Copenhagen, Beijing and Tel Aviv.

“The opening of the Representation in Washington D.C. reflects our clear intentions to strengthen the bonds between the Faroe Islands and the United States,” Høgni Hoydal, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, noted.

The Representation of the Faroe Islands in Washington D.C. is headed by Bjørn Kunoy.

Mr. Kunoy headed the Representation in Moscow from 2015 to 2018. A professor of international law at the University of the Faroe Islands, and adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University, Mr. Kunoy has also worked as a legal advisor for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
