Incoming tourism promotion entity Visit Faroe Islands has announced the recurrence of the ‘Closed for Maintenance’ program in early May.
“We are excited to announce the return of the Maintenance working days in 2022,” Visit Faroe Islands said in a statement. “The dates are 4 – 6 May 2022.”
Some 10 popular tourist sites will be closed to the general public on May 5th and 6th, according to Visit Faroe Islands.
With the deadline for participating in this year’s program having passed at the point of this writing, Visit Faroe Islands noted that they had invited “100 volunteers from all over the world who will be chosen at random from the mass of applications.”
“Participants will receive free accommodation, food and transport on the islands over the three-night maintenance period,” we’re told. “They will work alongside Faroe Islanders who will also be given the opportunity to take part.”
The Closed for Maintenance program this year includes projects at Skarð on Kunoy island, Gøta, Kambsdalur, Elduvík, Rituvík & Lamba, Fossá near Haldarsvík, Nólsoy (Borðan), Norðradalur, Vágar, Sandoy, and Suðuroy.
