After the Faroese national team had bored us all to…well….a tea-time nap with their dull and uninspiring 2-0 defeat to Azerbaijan this evening (the match kicked off at 5 p.m. local time), it was certainly uplifting to sit back and relax and watch the contingent of shiny, happy athletes who competed in this year‘s version of Burn Showdown, which took place in Tórshavn´s Handball Hall (locally known as “Grøna Høllin” – the Green Hall) this weekend, including today and tonight.
Around 1.000 people showed up this cold, but at the same time oh so beautiful November night to cheer on the brave athletes, who today and long into the night competed in the categories “Men‘s physique”, “Women‘s physique” and “Bikini Fitness” – just to name a few categories on schedule today.
The competitors came from all over the world – from countries such as Italy, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Denmark and the Faroe Islands.
The most popular of them all was undoubtedly – if the reaction of the crowd was anything to go by – Elisabeth Dam Jacobsen (see picture above) from the Faroe Islands, who took the bikini fitness category by storm.
