2017 saw more travellers visit the Faroe Islands than ever before. A portion of those travellers came to the Faroe Islands on a business trip, either for a meeting, an incentive trip or to familiarise themselves with the country. Visit Faroe Islands, the country’s destination marketing organisation, has put much emphasis on attracting this type of traveller in recent years. Their hard work is starting to bear fruit, as the Faroe Islands has become an attractive destination for meetings and incentives.
“Within the past couple of years, we have seen an increase in interest from foreign companies and associations looking to host or book meetings, conferences and incentives in the Faroe Islands,” says Annleyg Lamhauge, MICE Manager at Visit Faroe Islands (MICE stands for meetings, incentives, conferences and events). “People and companies from abroad have started to notice that the islands have a lot to offer. In addition to beautiful landscapes and an inspiring culture, the country also has an extremely resourceful community with a high emphasis on innovation in several fields. On top of that, excellent meeting and conference facilities are spread around the islands, and the meeting industry in the Faroe Islands is highly equipped and prepared to offer an excellent standard of service.”
Arctic Circle Forum
One of this year’s big conferences in the Faroe Islands is the Arctic Circle Forum “Arctic hubs”, which will be held on 8-9 May. Organised by the international Arctic Circle organization based in Iceland and the Government of the Faroe Islands, the Forum will bring together political leaders and high-level policy makers, business executives, experts, researchers and other stakeholders from across the North and the wider international community to explore the successes and challenges in building dynamic economies and sustainable communities in the Arctic.
Over the last few years, the Assemblies and the Forums of the Arctic Circle organization have created the largest international network on the Arctic. The Forum in the Faroe Islands follows previous Forums in Scotland and Greenland. Other Arctic Forums have been held in Alaska, Singapore, Washington and Québec.
The Forum will be held in the Nordic House in Tórshavn and is expected to have at least two hundred attendees.
Annleyg is pleased that the Faroe Islands has been chosen to host such an important and prestigious conference.
