Video: Dead blue whale stranded in the village of Kirkjubøur

This morning – around 10 a.m. – a dead blue whale stranded on an islet in the village of Kirkjubøur.

According to locals, the whale is probably around 20-25 meters long.

“The whale is very long. I would guess it is 20-25 meters long, but it is very difficult to conclude,” Janus Vang told Kringvarp Føroya this morning.

Faroese news website states that it is likely that the strong ocean currents have taken the blue whale to the tiny village on the west side of Streymoy.

It is not unusual that dead blue whales end up in the Faroe Islands. Last October, the remains of a dead sperm whale ended up in the village of Kirkjubøur.
