If everything goes according to plan, Atlantic Airways, the national airlines of the Faroe Islands, will begin flying to New York (Newark Liberty International Airport) starting in March 2020.
Atlantic CEO Jóhanna á Bergi on Monday told Kringvarp Føroya that Atlantic Airways has been allocated a spot at the Newark Airport.
Atlantic Airways originally intended to make a couple of flights to New York City this fall, but the opening of the route has been delayed as work getting the necessary permissions has been complicated.
“Much more complicated than the Faroese airline had ever imagined,” said Ms. Bergi, adding that “Atlantic Airways will fly to New York 7-8 times next spring, and also 7-8 times next fall.”
The cheapest round-trip tickets from Vágar to New York – or the other way round – will cost around DKK 5.000 (760 USD), Ms. Bergi informed Kringvarp Føroya last December.
The trip from the Faroe Islands to Newark will take around six hours.
