About the puffin:

The North Atlantic puffin (also known as common puffin) is a species of seabird in the auk family.

They are a very distinctive unique looking bird highlighted by a bright red, yellow and blue beek.

North Atlantic puffins breed throughout the North Atlantic incuding the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway, Greenland, the U.K. and New-foundland.

Puffins grow to about 30cm tall and have a wingspan of up to 65cm.

Puffin spend the autumn and winter in the open ocean of the cold northern seas, then return to the coastal areas at the start of the breeding season in the late spring.

Puffins nest in the clifftop colonies, digging a burrow in which a single egg is laid.

The chick mostly feeds on the whole fish and grows rapidly. After about six weeks it is fully fledged and makes its way at night to the sea. It swims away from the shore and does not return to land for several years.

Puffins live a very long life and have the same mate their entire life.
