This weekend the Faroe Islands Red Cross organized an Intercultural Family Retreat in Nesvík. Around 120 people with different cultural backgrounds participated along with 12 Red Cross volunteers and 2 staff. The program for children included both games, creative activities, singing, dancing, swimming and story-telling. The program for grown-ups was partially coordinated with the childrens program but did also include presentations and work-shops on important issues families face when moving to a new place. On Friday evening Steintór and Rakul Ró performed some famous childrens songs while Marius had a breathtaking performance on Saturday evening. The atmosphere at the event became even more special when two participants on the retreat got married on Saturday. Dansifelagið á Látrinum was present at the camp when the married couple returned to Nesvík and they got to experience the traditional weddingsong “brúðarvísan” and faroese dance. All in all the retreat was a good experience and the Red Cross is looking forward for next years’ Intercultural Family Retreat.
