Grindadráp takes place in the village of Hvalba

A Grindadráp took place in the village of Hvalba on Suðuroy this morning, report several Faroese news outlets.

The grind was spotted in the middle of the fjord where the village of Sandvík is located.

It is not allowed to kill pilot whales in Sandvík, and thus, the whales were driven onto the beach of Hvalba, where they were killed.

“The killings went fast and well. The grind was less than 40 whales, and the slaughter lasted around 8 minutes,” says local sheriff Jaspur Vang, according to Faroese news website In.fo.
