At the moment, larger retailers are not allowed to be open in the evenings and on Sundays.

However, this is set to change soon as the Ministry of Trade is preparing amendments to the Trading (Allowable Hours) Act.

Kringvarp Føroya reports that the Faroese parliament is expected to approve the trade ministry‘s proposal to lift restrictions on the opening hours of all grocery stores, regardless of size.

The proposal will allow grocery stores larger than 250 square metres to remain open until 11 pm on weekdays, and it will also allow larger retailers to be open on Sundays from 2pm to 11pm in December, writes Kvf.fo.
