Jóhan Jógvansson, Saksun‘s big farmer, grabbed the headlines of the Faroese media for all the wrong reasons yesterday after he sent a xenophobic message – ”this is not Disneyland. Tourists, go home” – to foreign tourists earlier this week.
52% of Faroe Islanders hold the creationist belief that God created humanity as it currently exists a mere 10.000 years ago. According to a new survey conducted by Lóður for Kringvarp Føroya, 52% of respondents identified themselves as ”creationists” and 21% as ”evolutionists”.
…”But the message was not directed at the joyous travelers who visited the village of Saksun yesterday”, claims Jóhan Jógvansson, Saksun’s big farmer. He states that the message was directed to the new development department of Visit Faroe Islands.
