Amnesty International Føroyar (Faroe Islands) has launched an online appeal to the Polish president and the Polish parliament as the Polish parliament has rejected a proposed legislation to liberalise abortion laws, voting instead to pass proposals for tough new restrictions to a parliamentary committee for further scrutiny.
Amnesty International Føroyar demands that Poland drops its plans to ”implement new dangerous restrictions on abortion”.
– Poland has one of the strictest abortion laws in Europe as it is. We know we can stop this proposal if we stand together. Support women´s rights in Poland. Put your signature on the demand to the president and the parliament, Amnesty International Føroyar declares.
According to The Guardian, Poland already has some of the most restrictive abortion laws in Europe, with terminations permitted only when the life of the foetus is under threat, when there is a grave threat to the health of the mother, or if the pregnancy resulted from rape or incest.
